FieldRunner for the iPhone and iPod Touch is an addictive and challenging game. This is different than any other tower defense game. Other tower defense game has a path, or a track that you have to put your defense around. Where as FieldRunner, you make your own path in a huge field.
The 1st level, Grassland, has one entrance and one exit. Make a path to slow them down or add a Slime Gun to slow the enemy’s movement. Each enemy you destroy, you get points during the game. The game is a continuous game, you can upgrade the weapons during the game or add weapons in the field, or you can pause to add or upgrade weapons.
Each round gets difficult, but I find myself to not ever need to upgrade my weapons instead add layers off weapons or make the path zig zag to slow them down.
Initially you only get four weapons. Turrets, weak after the rounds gets difficult. Slime gun, needed to slow the enemy down. Missile for more effective kill on Air or Ground and the best yet expensive, Tessla Coil. It shoots electric down onto the enemies and kills them pretty fast.
The enemies at first are just soldiers trying to get across the field. Then as each round gets difficult, you’ll get harder to kill enemies such as Tanks, Robots, Blimps and fast Bikes that will zoom by really fast if you don’t have Slime Gun in strategic places.
After you pass each level to 100 rounds, you can replay it to an Endless mode which allows you to play after 100 rounds and you’ll get two extra weapons such as Flame Guns, effective for Tanks and Blimps, and you’ll get a Heavy Duty Bomb that hits hard and damage Robots and Tanks heavily but is also the most expensive of all weapons.
Other Field levels includes two entrances and two exit and last Field level is the hardest, you have to fend off enemies from three entrances from entering three exits.
My personal tip, guard the entrance and exit well. When they enter your field from the gate, they’ll get attack from your weapons instantly, and your weapons near the exits will kill the rest that the other weapons didn’t get to kill. I also noticed that the enemies gets tougher when I upgraded the weapons. So I avoid upgrading them and just install the heaviest weapons on the field as much as you can such as Tessla Coil and Missile. Unless if you are playing Endless mode, then Tessla Coil and Heavy Duty Bombs are the perfect Combo.
Even after purchasing this 6 months ago, I’m still playing with it. Trying to beat my own score as well as how high of a rounds I can go.
