Tips on how to Jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 after 5.1.1 is out

You would only do this if you really really want to jailbreak your iOS Device on iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and/or iPad 2. If you do a restore via iTunes, it will automatically go to iOS 5.1.1 and then you’ll be out of luck until the next jailbreak. This tip is only for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. While the iPad 1 and iPhone 4 is much easier to jailbreak, there is no need to follow the steps below if you have an iPad 1 or iPhone 4.

So you bought an old stock of iPad 2, or you just got an iPhone 4S as a gift and you’re in luck that the iOS is 5.0.1. Or you were just waiting it out up till now to Jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1. Which is fine, until you realize, oops, the Jailbreak don’t work. Not even when you click on the VPN to Jailbreak.

No matter what you do with Absinthe 0.4, re-jailbreak a few times, delete the Absinthe icon from your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, it still doesn’t work. Well, if you are desperate enough, follow the guide below. If you value what you have and hate to start over, meaning you have to restore your apps from backup, re-sync all your music and possibly your apps too, well then, you should stop now because the steps required to Jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 would mean to erase everything you have and start over on a new iOS 5.0.1.

First Step is important: I suggest you backup first with iTunes.

Second Step: Go to your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

Let it do what it needs to do, including restart, and an apple logo with a status bar will appear. Let it be until it restart itself. After it restart itself, start Absinthe 0.4 again and re-jailbreak.

Then restore from your Backup before you erased all your content and settings. If you don’t restore or did not do a backup, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal, unless if you have a game in progress that you value so much that it needs restoring, then you should restore. The restore will restore your game settings, game scores, Facebook credentials, twitter information, contacts in your address book, email accounts and other accounts that requires logins information, photos in your camera roll and photo albums, notes, reminders and more. It will not restore your files that you moved from a 3rd Party software such as videos, pictures, documents and all that.

If you are trying the jailbreak process with Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) with Absinthe 0.4, it will not work. Absinthe is not compatible with Mountain Lion Preview 3 or Preview 4 (OS X Preview 3 or OS X Preview 4)

Enjoy!
