There is no easy way to set your APN on your iPhone from the iPhone settings. I don’t understand why Apple don’t just make it easy for all of us. Good thing there is a way, and it’s easy enough for anyone to do the steps. Below is the How to set iPhone APN in One Step.Open your Safari Browser with your iPhone, go to http://help.benm.at, go to the very bottom and click on Tethering. If your Country isn’t listed, go all the down to the bottom and create a custom APN and set your APN Settings there and click on Download. That’s it! That’s one step easy.
If you already have an existing APN Profile, you can edit your APN Settings by going to General > Network > Cellular Data
Alternatively, you can follow below for 6 steps how to if the One Step above isn’t sufficient:
1. mac version: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL851
windows version: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL926
2. Open the iPhone Configuration Program, for Mac Version, it should be in Utilities Folder.
3. Google your Carriers APN settings
4. Under Library there’s a Configuration Profiles, Click on “new”, go down to advanced, add the APN settings, for example in Malaysia, use Access Point name “maxis” and password, “wap”, rest not needed, at least not for Carrier Maxis
5. Connect your iphone, should pop up as in iTunes, go to “configuration profiles tab”, chose install, a notification should appear on your phone, choose “install”. After install it should work directly.
Only one profile can be installed at once; which sucks because if you have different pre-paid cards, then you are stuck with one provider till you get a chance to go home and switch profile. For iPhone 3GS with iOS 4, the APN settings is under General > Network.
Troubleshooting:
1. Look in Devices/<phone>/Console for error messages.
2. In your Settings/General, you should now have a profile-tab, so you can choose to remove it if you experience any other problem and redo.
How to change iphone apn on iOS 6 is easy as well.
go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network and there you can change your Cellular Data APN

Thank you!!! I deleted my APN profile and did a network reset. Tried installing a new APN profile and kept getting the “install failed” error message. Stumbled upon this page and it worked! I have not seen this info anywhere else on the web except here. Thank you for posting this piece of information. Also if this helps anyone, I have an Iphone 3gs, 4.3.5, GOPhone sim card, and 5MB data package (purchased).

Ok, this is what you have to do in oder to change/edit the APN and EDGE settings for the Iphone with IOS 4.0.1
First Download the app Ifile from cydia, you can get it from the source http://apt.macosmovil.com
Once downloaded enter to /System/Library/ Carrier bundles/ Softbank_.jp.bundle/carrier.plist and add the command (this is for softbank japan, in this part you must search for the company you are getting the service not the company you got the Iphone from.
Seach for AllowEDGEEditing if it says after the command then click on edit and just change it for if the command is not there just add
AllowEDGEEditing
This will allow you to see and change the apn /edgesettings.
Now go to Setting > General > Network > Cellular Data Network and and you’ll see this
————————–
DATA
APN: smile.world
User: dna1trop
PW: so2t3k3m2a
MMS
APN: smile.world
User: dna1trop
PW: so2t3k3m2a
**Leave the rest same**
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS Proxy: smilemms.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Max…
MMS…
————————–
Change all that to:
————————–
DATA
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Username: softbank
Password: qceffknarlurqgbl
MMS
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Username: softbank
Password: qceffknarlurqgbl
—————————-
And it’s done, you changed you apn and now MMS must work.

This is very misleading.
There’s no pure “APN”. There’s Cellular Data APN and MMS APN.
This website you gave us only sets CELLULAR DATA APN.
You still need some other tool to edit your MMS APN if you wanna send/receive MMS.

I don’t really understand this post:
At first you say there is one easy step, then you go on to list a 6 step process. Which has to be done, the help.benm.at way or the Apple Config way?
