Latitudie for iPhone and iPad Wifi+3G is a good way to track your iPhone or iPad without subscribing to MobileMe and pay that monthly fee. Latitudie is for $1.99, while MobileMe is $99 a year. But MobileMe is not just about tracking your iPhone or iPad, it’s more than that. But if you need to just track your iPhone or iPad 3G, even if you quit the app, it will still track it.
I find Latitudie to track even after it is uninstalled. The only way to turn it off is to set it in the Settings and turn off Location for that app. Not sure if it’s a bug or deliberate program to stay in the background hidden, but it’s effective if you are worried about your iPhone or iPad 3G being stolen. For version 1.0 of Latitudie, at the time of this review, can only track your iPhone or iPad. It will not display your friend’s whereabouts.
The tracking part is very accurate, even when I travel it finds my location to the tee. Latitudie also updates your location when you move. It saves battery as long as you stay in one place. Move around, and it will update automatically. In the next version;
Latitudie 1.1, adding the following features, has been sent to Apple for review and should be available soon:
- Added support for location updates in the background using high precision
- Added support for periodically updating your location when running on the background, even if you haven’t moved
- Added support for temporarily hiding your location
- Fixed a bug which updated your location too fast
I have tested this on the iPad Wifi version only, and it doesn’t work.
