Joby GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 3

Are you in for a case for your new iPad 3? But you want a protection, looks cool, and light. The Joby GorillaMobile Ori at http://joby.com/gorillamobile/ori-2/ states that it’s for iPad 2, but there’s no difference in the design of iPad 3. In fact, I’m using the GorillaMobile Ori for my iPad 3. It fits nicely, snugly, and looks damn good too. You will add a little bit more weight to your iPad though, but then again, so will any other case out there that will protect your iPad from damage, such as Otterbox Defender.

The Joby GorillaMobile Ori is lighter than Otterbox Defender, looks better too since it’s all shiny and look like its from the future. The Joby GorillaMobile Ori can be transformed into a stand so you can watch a movie, or prop it at 35 degree angle so you can type. I also drop it a few times with my iPad, at the time, it was with the iPad 2, and it didn’t even leave a scratch, not on the iPad, not on the Joby GorillaMobile Ori case either. It protects it like the Otterbox Defender but with style and lightness.

I initially got the GorillaMobile Ori for my iPad 2 to watch a movie during traveling. It’s perfect to prop in front of the airplane’s built-in LCD Screen and replace it with your iPad with the choice of your movie that you preselect before traveling. Beside, iPad 3 has better screen resolution than the plane’s on-board LCD Screen.

The only drawback with the Ori is that it’s a bit of a hassle when trying to take a photo off the back. Facetime or Video Call with Skype through the Front Camera is easier since there is no obstruction. Before you can take a photo with your iPad 3 with the GorillaMobile Ori is that you have to make sure that the bottom and middle of the case is out of the way.

Also, the good thing about Ori is that it’s for both left hander and right hander. You can rotate the iPad anyway you like before closing the lid. When you prop it up, you can also go between Vertical or Horizontal view. You can have the iPad upside down and still be comfortable. Anyway you place your iPad’s position with Joby GorillaMobile Ori, you will be comfortable with it.

You have to remember that the Ori is not meant for you to handle your iPad for a long period of time. It is meant to be placed on a table, or flat surface so that you can prop it up. If you are in a hurry, you can always prop the iPad up after you open the lid. It’s actually easy and convenient that the hinges on the Ori will stay up once you lift the iPad to your desire position, but it has to be on a flat surface.

The good thing about the iPad 3 design is that it’s exactly the same as the iPad 2, exterior wise. So it make sense for casing accessories works on the iPad 3. I also got the Joby GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 http://joby.com/gorillamobile/yogi-2/ and that fits the iPad 3 as well.

Fits snugly I should say for the new iPad. A little tight than iPad 2, but it holds it securely. As long as you don’t add an extra thickness to it, such as applying Gelaskins to the new iPad, you should not have any problem fitting the Ori 2.

On the site of Gorrilapod, they claim that the Yogi for the ipad 2 dous not fit the Ipad 3.
They will not make a special version for the ipad 3.
Is the Yogi verry tight fit, and are all the cutouts the same for the Yogi 2 on the Ipad 3?

The cutout is exactly the same. I’m using it on my iPad 3rd Generation, and both the Wifi only version and the Wifi + 4G of the iPad 3rd Generation fits both the Yogi and the Ori. The difference is minimal, and it actually fits better than most of the casing I’ve tried. These two Yogi and Ori, plus the rubber case, works on the iPad 3 that was originally made for iPad 2. As long as you don’t add anymore thickness to it, it should fit snugly and safe.
