For me, emergency situations, this is excellent! Works great on my unlocked Nokia e71.
It does volatile Terms of Service with Amazon. (so does using thepiratebay I kid you not!) Remember its linked with the account you bought it with (credit card billing info) So Amazon can figure it out (highly unlikely). So I recommend getting a Kindle 3G off of Craigslist and pay in cash (or trade) like I did. Or buy it from Target it CASH.
Being you can tether via the USB to your iPhone/iPad 3G/Nokia e71 (unlocked) to your PC/Mac, what have you, then BAM, entire network gets slow as hell free internet!
For us out here, in the middle of rural America its about EDGE speed. (I use a cellphone range extender that is 15 feet and only been hit by lightning once (good to have it GROUNDED with 24 gauge wiring). With the cellphone extender off, its GPRS. 3G will never work out let alone 4G here being its not in AT&T’s financial interest anyways)
Works well we we loose our Wildblue because of major storms/snow/incompetence and/or no reason at all.

Does this still work? I bought a Kindle 2 and put its SIM into a Nokia e71-2, set APN to “broadband”, no data connection. If I set APN to “kindleatt1.amazon.com”, then I can open “www.amazon.com”.
Yeah, they changed the APN basically routes you can only use “Amazon’s” services.
Free ride’s over. I guess it was fun while it lasted.
I like your idea of getting free Internet for lifetime
I like the idea, however, the speed is snail speed at GPRS speed. Not even EDGE. It’s ok just to check email, but don’t expect too much surfing the Internet with it.
