Go Paperless with your iPad during Business Trip

If you travel a lot and you carry around a portable scanner, maybe a portable printer, or maybe you stay in a more upscale hotel so they can accommodate you with all your office needs. But why hassle yourself with all that when all you need is an iPad, or iPhone. You can go Paperless even if you’re not on a business trip. With the app below, you can sign documents in word or pdf format or if you have to scan a document, edit a pdf or word form, fax a document, there are apps for that as well.

There are an abundance of apps that you can choose from. However, below are the ones I find useful for my everyday need of signing, scanning and sending a signed document.

Sign-N-Send (iTunes Link): A Universal App, so you can sign documents with either or. This app will convert word doc to PDF pretty fast, as long as it’s not pages and pages of word docs that the app needs to convert. Converting 4 to 5 pages didn’t take long. Converting about 10 pages or more will take longer than 3 minutes. If it’s 20 pages or more, it will take 10 minutes or longer. Even when converting using the new iPad, it still takes a long time when converting 20 pages or more.

Softsign (iTunes Link): Another Universal App. Softsign does more than what Sign-N-Send can do. Other than just signing documents, highlighting and annotating, this one can also type your Text so it looks neater. Currently there is a bug when inputting text using Softsign, the bug is that the keyboard will not pop back up once you close it during typing your text. If you do, you have to start over by closing the app and re-opening for version 2.0.3.

PDF Expert (iTunes Link): For iPad Only. PDF Expert is not a signing software but more of a PDF Editor to input your text in a PDF Form. I use this to avoid the bug in SoftSign. Once I finish enter in all the necessary information in a form, I then export it by opening the finish form to Send-N-Sign if the form needs signing.

Scanner Pro by Readdle (iTunes Link): A Universal App. This is a scanner, and you can say with this app, it would be your portable scanner. There are other apps that are worthy of Scanning with the new iPad camera, however, Scanner Pro has good reviews and I’ve been using this app for over a year. It never fail me yet.

WorldCard Mobile (iTunes Link): This is a business card scanner for the iPhone. There is also the iPad version called WorldCard HD, but that’s a separate app. The iPhone version works great on the new iPad. This saves me time by scanning the business cards I need to save directly into my contacts without typing them.

Those are the worthy apps for business if you are on the go. To sum up, for PDF signing, I would use PDF Expert for the forms, and Sign-N-Send to sign the PDF back via email. If you need to fax the form back, you can use Scanner Pro to fax. If you want to save money and just kill two birds with one stone rather than getting two apps for doing the same thing, then get the SoftSign. You will save half the price than getting two, but like I mentioned before, SoftSign has a keyboard bug if you accidentally close the keyboard instead of clicking Done.
