There’s an option in the link before you check out and you have an option. “Download to Computer” or “Send Wirelessly to Kindle”. However, the Subscription options is only “Send Wireless to Kindle” rather than Download to Computer. If there’s an option not to do a monthly subscription and you would rather do a per issue basis, then you can do “Download to Computer”. But There’s no option to “Send to Kindle for iPad”. So how do I do that if I want to do a subscription?

You can’t, yet. When? Who knows, it’s been more than a year for this request.

Answer from CS Amazon.com:

Hello,

Periodicals such as newspapers, magazines, blogs, and personal documents can currently only be delivered to a Kindle and cannot be viewed on Kindle for iPad. However, most books available for reading on Amazon Kindle can also be read on Kindle for iPad.

I’ll let the Kindle team know that you’re interested in the ability to receive subscriptions on your Kindle for iPad. They’re always looking for ways to improve our Kindle offerings and may be able to make this feature available in the future.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

So there you go. If they can make the subscription work for the iPad, I’ll be subscribing to one at least by now. But seeing how Apple is going towards the subscription model, Amazon might not have the chance in the Apple arena. Though I predict that most of the News Media Subscription base in Kindle will move to iOS once Apple release it’s subscription model for publishers.

  1. Amazon announced in Oct 2010 that they would offer this option:

    http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/media-lab/mobile-media/106502/amazon-to-offer-read-anywhere-option-for-kindle-subscriptions/

Then a blog reported in July 2011 that they are now doing it for just over 100 subscription products:

HOWEVER, I have subscriptions to the Wall Street Journal and Investors Business Daily, neither of which are pushed to my Kindle iPad app. Really disappointing. I assume that WSJ and IBD are not part of the”just over 100″ subscription products that are currently being pushed and synced among multiple non-Kindle devices.

Looking forward to a singular program/app that allows me to manage all of my content and push it to all of my devices without the hindrance of turf wars over revenue sharing or technical roadblocks with formatting.

    • If Magazines and Newspaper is available on the iPad or iPhone, that means it’s a direct competition to Newstand for Apple iPad when it comes out in iOS 5. Amazon has a lot of newspaper as well as magazines for subscription. This would compete against Zinio as well. Amazon has just rolled out their Kindle Publishing for Newspaper and Magazines in Beta and I’m enrolled to it to put the Family Newspaper company on to the Kindle as well as the Magazine. I’m sure not all magazines have jumped on the Beta bandwagon, at least not yet. Thanks for sharing though.

You should also check out SendtoReader.com for direct sharing to your Kindle. I use it and it’s like reading it later but more direct to your Kindle in a nice Kindle format.

    • I would like to add that since you mentioned WSJ, while I was on their Beta program for Newspaper and Magazines, I found this on their Overview:

“Using Kindle Publishing for Periodicals (KPP), publishers can add their publications to the Kindle store just like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Economist. KPP will allow publishers to preview their publication before they are launched and delivered to subscribers. Publishers can also access payment and subscription reports through KPP.”

It could also means that if you are subscribe to the Kindle edition for your Kindle, then maybe you can subscribe it on the Kindle App for iPad? I’ll have to try that myself.
