After playing around with iMessage a few days, I found some things just annoying. Although iMessage has its woes, it’s still an added value to the iOS 5. I know that there are some of you wondering why it’s not as intuitive to use, not as easy to use, and just plain confusing.
Once you get use to it however, it won’t be as annoying, but there are some things that could be intuitive.
Group Message
To add group message with your friends or family, you would need to add individual email addresses manually, you can’t just add the + and add the email. So you have to either enter in the email address in a non email format such as youremailgmailcom, which translate to youremail@gmail.com, or if you have them in your address book, you can copy the email address manually one by one and add them. It became very repetitive and unnecessary to repeat.
Exiting iMessage Group Chat
This is the most annoying part. Once the group chat is added, you can’t leave, unless of everyone in the group all unanimously delete the group message from the message list. If its just one person who decided not to leave the group, it would come back from the deleted list and re-appear.
How to start an iMessage conversation
This isn’t as intuitive as WhatsApp because in order for you to start a conversation, you need to go to your address book, select your contact, go towards the bottom and click on Send Message and select the email address. The Text Box will change to iMessage, or Text Message. If the text box displayed Text Message rather than iMessage, it would send an MMS instead.
Tip to avoid MMS or accidental sending of an SMS message for iPhone users, which could cost you money.
Turn off SMS and MMS in Settings > Messages under “Send As SMS” and MMS Messaging. I have mine OFF on both and I was still able to send SMS on my iPhone through the Message icon from the Home Screen.
Those are my woes for iMessage, what’s yours?
