I got a friend who asked me about how her Mother switched iPhone to an newer iPhone. There was a report from Techcrunch about how people were trapped in an iMessage bug after the user switched to an Android. However, this case is different, but the how to below works the same; if you switch from an iPhone to an newer iPhone or switched to an Android, all you have to do is delete your profile from apple website. Below is the how to:
- Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
- Log in if not already logged in.
- Click on “edit products”
- Click on the “x” to the right of the product.
- Click “unregister”
The problem was that when the user switched to a newer iPhone while the other iPhone phone number is still registered, whoever iMessage to the newer phone via sms, the older phone instead gets it. Both iPhone has sim card in it, but the newer iPhone was the one with the registered old iMessage number rather than the new phone number that came with the iPhone as a new contract. So even those with a newer iPhone could have the same problem.
