How to Enable Multi-Gesture Swipe on iPad 1 and 2

Enable multi-gesture function on the iPad 1 and iPad 2 that was supposed to be there on iOS 4.3 but was taken out by Apple. Apple is already planning on a HOME button-less on their new iPhone which suppose to come out next year 2012. With this Multi-Finger Swipe, 4 finger swiping, you can eliminate the Home Button all together. Enhancing the user experience.

Update November 12th, 2011. The latest update iOS 5.0.1 enables multi-gesture for the first generation iPad.

Update: Multi-Gesture Swipe is available on iOS 5 for iPad 2 only. The settings is under Settings > General > Multitasking Gesture.

If you still have iOS 4.x on your iPad 2, or is currently using iPad 1, please follow the instruction below:

First, you need a Mac with OSX 10.6.6 or higher, because 10.6.6 and up has the Mac App Store. Search for XCode in the Mac App Store and pay $5. If you want to have XCode 4 for free, go here and register as an Apple Developer.

The file is huge, about 4.24Gb. Once it’s downloaded:

1. Launch XCode
2. Click on Use for Development (Disregard putting in your Developer Info) by clicking Cancel
3. Click OK

On the iPad:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to General
3. Look for Multitasking Gestures

That’s about it. Enjoy your Multi-Gesture with 4 finger swipe.

How to use the 4 Finger Magic Swipe:
Touch 4 finger Up on the screen and you will pull up your Task that are open.
Pinch with 4 Finger in any application will take you home.
Swipe Right or Left with 4 Finger will take you to the next or previous apps
