There are times when you need to upload files via the method that exist since the time of time, or I should say, the time of internet with FTP Protocol and it’s ways to transfer files. I find FTP to be an old method if you want to share files, but sometimes, I need it to access files that is secured or local within the network files. It’s difficult to find a good FTP program for the iPad, the standalone one will set you $10; just for FTP’ing. I’ll just use what I have and the app is free, no redundant app I need to download that will clutter my Home Screen or Home Folder.
What is FTP? FTP means File Transfer Protocol. It was used mainly to log in to a remote website to manipulate your files within the website and more.
The app I use for FTP is GoodReader. GoodReader is free app and a straight forward app to use when it comes to adding an FTP site.
How do you add an FTP Site in GoodReader?
Step 1: Open GoodReader
Step 2: Click on Connect to Servers On the Right Side Menu
Step 3: Click on Add Button next to Edit button
Step 4: Select FTP Server from the drop down
Step 5: Fill in the information needed, no need for FTP:// just type in the IP address or URL. Leave Encoding to UTF8.
Step 6: Click on Add button and that’s it!
In Step 5, you can also add the folder destination, such as FTP://ftp.webaddress.com/public_html/files/morefiles/thatsitfiles/ so you don’t have to browse through folders every time you connect to the FTP Site.
Enjoy!
