So you ask yourself, where is the firmware ipsw file that Apple keep after it download before the actual updates of your iPhone? Should you ever need to access these files, it helps to know where to find them. Apple won’t tell you, but below is where it can find your ipsw file. This also applies when you are updating your iPod Touch or iPad 1 and iPad 2.
On Windows XP :
Documents and Settings\
On Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Users\
On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
This is useful incase you need to locate the firmware ipsw file to jailbreak your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch with RedSn0w or GreenPois0n.
