The BlackBerry Torch was something that I’ve been waiting for since the day the photos was leaked last year. It has the touch screen, plus keyboard. What got me interested was the fact that it has a big touch screen, and second, the keyboard hides behind that large screen.
The keyboard is big enough, somewhat comfortable, and the operating system can be tweaked better. Below are the list of Pros and Cons: Continue reading »

A friend of mine gave me a tip about the same problem he had with his BlackBerry. This happens when I unplugged the battery on my BlackBerry to reboot, it won’t boot up. The screen went black and it the LED light constantly blinked red. I thought for sure it was bricked.
So how do you fixed this problem, where it won’t boot up, blank screen and the only indication that it’s somewhat dead is by the red light constantly blinking? Continue reading »

This is an update to those who read my other post about Restoring your BlackBerry Messenger Contacts after an upgrade from BlackBerry Messenger 4.6 to 5.x. This post is about restoring your contacts if you decide to upgrade from one BlackBerry device to a newer BlackBerry device. Just recently, I had to upgrade from my Bold 9000 to Bold 9700, and the steps below were done not just with mine, but with three others from upgrading to the similar device.
I had one particular trouble with one of the device, prompting me to upgrade the BlackBerry Messenger to 5.0.0.57 from 5.0.0.23 on a White Bold 9700. So I did and after a reboot, all the contact list were gone. And the person I’m helping, don’t have a back up of her contacts remotely.
If this is the case, what I did was to do a backup of the contact lists remotely on the old device, then on the new device, I did a restore. The backup is usually tied to your email.
So what if you don’t have an email on your BlackBerry? Kind of odd and rare occasion, but it does happen. What I did was I did a Switch Device and on the new BlackBerry, I don’t do the upgrade right away, instead, I setup an email, then do a back up of the contact list from there and then do the upgrade to 5.0.0.57 and did a restore.
Below are the basic steps to Backup and Restore.
1. Backup your BlackBerry Messenger Contacts remotely:
- Go to your BlackBerry Messenger
- Click on the BlackBerry Button
- Go to Options
- Go down to Contact List
- Click on Back Up Button
2. Go to your New BlackBerry Device
- Go to your BlackBerry Messenger
- Click on the BlackBerry Button
- Go to Options
- Go down to Contact List
- Click on Restore Button

Recently I have switched from WebcamXP to iCam. iCam is for Mac and Windows and you can view the video streamed or previously captured to your iPod Touch or iPhone. If you have a Java Enabled Browser, you can view the stream. However, I haven’t been able to view my videos on my Mac yet.
iCam is a webcam software for your PC and iPhone/iPod Touch, which allows you to stream your webcam video live or you can review what was captured within the App. The images are stored on your hard drive. But instead of using my hard drive to store the images, I use DropBox. iCam needs to be installed to your PC or Mac to be able to view the streaming video or the captured images.
DropBox is an online storage, free for 2Gb, and it synchronize your files instantly to Dropbox server. If you don’t want Dropbox to share your files publicly, it won’t, unless if you set it to share publicly. But by default, it’s private. Dropbox is compatible with Windows and Mac.
If you want to sign up with DropBox, you can get an extra 250mb by following on the link: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTY0MzYyNTI5.
DropBox iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Application is also available on the AppStore for free.
The iCam iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Application is available on the AppStore for $4.99.
If you have BlackBerry, you won’t be able to stream videos like you can on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Instead, you have to use DropBox by going to http://www.dropbox.com and login and select the folder where your iCam images are stored. Or you can just use MobiScope or WebCam XP. MobiScope and iCam is device specifics, while WebCam XP is compatible with all Smartphone.
DropBox is a good alternative in case the iCam UDP Port is blocked by your Network Administrator; you can still view the capture still images from your iDevices or BlackBerry.
The iCam combination with DropBox, you can be assured that the images on your PC is stored safely online. If you have a webcam setup in your home or at your office and your PC or Laptop get stolen, your webcam images with it, leaving yourself clueless on who took your PC or Laptop. With DropBox, everything is stored online and you can view the captured images and find the perpetrator who stole your stuff. It’s more for your insurance.
Before I decided to use DropBox, I’ve been using my Network Drive, Buffalo Linkstation Live 1 Terrabyte and just recently, I was asking myself, what happens if that Network Drive gets stolen too? Even though it’s hidden well, the network cable is still visible and if the thief can steal the router, he can route the network cable back to my Network Drive. So the DropBox is a Backup for the Backup.
Once you have DropBox installed, you can open the folder by going to your My Documents Folder and find My DropBox for Windows. If you use OS X for Mac, it’s in the DropBox folder in Finder. I use DropBox in both Windows and Mac and I can sync one another without being on the same network. That’s another advantage of DropBox.
Update: Dropbox is made for the new iPad.

No matter how I set it up, it doesn’t recognize the native email on my BlackBerry. It keeps on asking me to register my native email. I have been getting email on my BlackBerry, well before I installed SmrtGuard. So it didn’t recognize my BIS Setup in Indonesia. Unlike Roblock, it doesn’t use the Native Email. Good Bye SmrtGuard, welcome back Roblock.
SmrtGuard is offering their service for free for the life of your BlackBerry. The only thing you have to pay is the Backup and Restore service they provide. It’s a nice feature that Roblock don’t have, but it’s not enough for me to keep the software in my BlackBerry.

Before this latest build, you have to save the picture first before you can view what your friend is sending you. Version 5.0.0.57 gives you the option to preview the picture, Save it or Decline it. Just like the screenshot. This build is also faster, no more lag when you leave your BlackBerry Messenger chat session on all the time. This build reminds me of BlackBerry Messenger 4.6 but prettier.
