Recently I have switched from WebcamXP to iCam. iCam is for Mac and Windows and you can view the video streamed or previously captured to your iPod Touch or iPhone. If you have a Java Enabled Browser, you can view the stream. However, I haven’t been able to view my videos on my Mac yet.

iCam is a webcam software for your PC and iPhone/iPod Touch, which allows you to stream your webcam video live or you can review what was captured within the App. The images are stored on your hard drive. But instead of using my hard drive to store the images, I use DropBox. iCam needs to be installed to your PC or Mac to be able to view the streaming video or the captured images.

DropBox is an online storage, free for 2Gb, and it synchronize your files instantly to Dropbox server. If you don’t want Dropbox to share your files publicly, it won’t, unless if you set it to share publicly. But by default, it’s private. Dropbox is compatible with Windows and Mac.

If you want to sign up with DropBox, you can get an extra 250mb by following on the link: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTY0MzYyNTI5.

DropBox iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Application is also available on the AppStore for free.
The iCam iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Application is available on the AppStore for $4.99.

If you have BlackBerry, you won’t be able to stream videos like you can on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Instead, you have to use DropBox by going to http://www.dropbox.com and login and select the folder where your iCam images are stored. Or you can just use MobiScope or WebCam XP. MobiScope and iCam is device specifics, while WebCam XP is compatible with all Smartphone.

DropBox is a good alternative in case the iCam UDP Port is blocked by your Network Administrator; you can still view the capture still images from your iDevices or BlackBerry.

The iCam combination with DropBox, you can be assured that the images on your PC is stored safely online. If you have  a webcam setup in your home or at your office and your PC or Laptop get stolen, your webcam images with it, leaving yourself clueless on who took your PC or Laptop. With DropBox, everything is stored online and you can view the captured images and find the perpetrator who stole your stuff.  It’s more for your insurance.

Before I decided to use DropBox, I’ve been using my Network Drive, Buffalo Linkstation Live 1 Terrabyte and just recently, I was asking myself, what happens if that Network Drive gets stolen too? Even though it’s hidden well, the network cable is still visible and if the thief can steal the router, he can route the network cable back to my Network Drive. So the DropBox is a Backup for the Backup.

Once you have DropBox installed, you can open the folder by going to your My Documents Folder and find My DropBox for Windows. If you use OS X for Mac, it’s in the DropBox folder in Finder. I use DropBox in both Windows and Mac and I can sync one another without being on the same network. That’s another advantage of DropBox.

Update: Dropbox is made for the new iPad.

FieldRunner for the iPhone and iPod Touch is an addictive and challenging game. This is different than any other tower defense game. Other tower defense game has a path, or a track that you have to put your defense around. Where as FieldRunner, you make your own path in a huge field.

The 1st level, Grassland, has one entrance and one exit. Make a path to slow them down or add a Slime Gun to slow the enemy’s movement. Each enemy you destroy, you get points during the game. The game is a continuous game, you can upgrade the weapons during the game or add weapons in the field, or you can pause to add or upgrade weapons. Continue reading »

My personal review of the game Warzone for iPod Touch and iPhone

The game is addicting, reminds me of the first version of Sid Meiers Civilization for the PC. It is a turn by turn based game, but quicker than Civilization. Everything that you do takes one turns, even if you move your troops from one continent to another. Great if you want to play and conquer the world in three hours. Unrealistic if you are used to Sid Meiers Civilization kind of game.

Pros:
Quick Game of taking over the world
One Turn per move
Tutorial is built-in
Easy to play

Cons:
Unrealistic turn by turn game
The game is too easy
Gets tired of the game easily

Replay Value:
2 of 10

Release Date: 10/20/2009
Size: 34.9 MB
Languages: English
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch (2nd generation) Requires iPhone OS 2.0 or later

I’ve been using the Mophie Extended Battery for the iPod Touch 2nd Generation for more than two months. Originally the battery on the iPod Touch 2nd Gen last only for 2.5 hours with 3.0 OS. And Mophie claims double the life. So I bought it from my local Apple Store so my son can play for 5 hours straight. I got to test it during the plane ride of 22 hours, I managed to get 6 hours with it. I played Field Runners and watch iTunes purchased movies.

Mophie will make your iPod Touch bulkier and it attached itself to the bottom, so it protects the bottom and 3/4 of the side. Mophie has a phone jack on the bottom that will bypass the sound of your iPod making your 2nd Gen iPod Touch without sound unless if you use a headphone jack. But the upside is worth it if you need to make your iPod Touch last through the day.

Mophie won’t charge your iPod Touch though, it’s actually just enough juice to maintain the iPod Touch at whatever the battery was at when you use Mophie. Sometime my son likes to play without Mophie and it drains the battery to red. Then he plugs the Mophie in for the next 3 hours and the iPod Touch battery is still in red.

So how Mophie works is that it uses the external battery pack first, when that’s depleted, it uses whatever is left and that is your iPod Touch power. Mophie comes in two flavor. One is for iPod Touch 2nd Generation, while the other for iPhone. It also has a 4 indicator. 4 lights mean it’s full, 3 full lights plus the 4th one blinking means 3.5. So it’s easy to check the status of the battery for Mophie. Convenient.

Pros:
Last total of up to 6 hours
Protects your naked iPod
Added grip to the sides and bottom

Cons:
Bulkier by a little bit
Does not protect the top of your iPod Touch
Disable the external speaker of your 2nd Gen iPod Touch
